~ hiking at Silver Creek Falls

After much planning, scheming and outright failure, we did manage to celebrate Jonathan's 39th birthday (on June 5th) with three of our favorite couples: our old friends the McCauley's, Egberts and Wintersteens. I had tried to surprise Jonathan by having his old buddy Matt Thomas fly in from DC on his birthday but that didn't work out at the last minute due to a getting-out-of-the-Air-Force snafu that messed up our plans. Poor Matt, he really tried. I had tried to plan a surprise party for Jonathan the same day and not only did Matt have to cancel, but then it looked like all three couples weren't going to be able to make it, either. Thankfully all sorts of things changed, and all three couples WERE able to come over, although by that point it was no longer a surprise party. We opened presents, had strawberry shortcake-- Jonathan's favorite choice for birthday cake-- hung out and relaxed, and laughed so much watching Jim Gaffigan that our faces hurt.

Just what the doctor wanted...

The next day we headed out to Silver Creek Falls and went for a family hike. The weather was PERFECT. Just right for hiking.

Oh  yeah, and the reason Caleb looks like E.T. in Jonathan's giant coat is that it was just cool enough for him to want a sweatshirt but he forgot to bring one.

AND... right after this shot my camera battery died, so that's all, folks!

beautiful...

The world has enough women who are tough;
we need women who are tender.
There are enough women who are coarse;
we need women who are kind.
There are enough women who are rude;
we need women who are refined.
We have enough women of fame and fortune;
we need more women of faith.
We have enough of greed;
we need more goodness.
We have enough of vanity;
we need more virtue.
We have enough popularity;
we need more purity.
